Module 6 of 7 · ISO 14001:2015 · Clause 9

Performance evaluation

This clause forces environmental performance into real data: indicators, legal compliance evaluation, internal audits and management review.

Content reviewed on

Environmental monitoring and measurement

Determine what needs monitoring and measurement —consumption, emissions, waste—, with what method and when, and evaluate environmental performance and the effectiveness of the system.

Evaluation of compliance

Periodically evaluate compliance with identified legal and other requirements, and maintain knowledge and understanding of your compliance status.

Internal audit and management review

An internal audit programme for the environmental system, and management review with specific inputs such as legal compliance, environmental objectives and communication from interested parties.

What an auditor usually asks for

  • An environmental indicator dashboard (consumption, waste, emissions) kept current
  • A documented compliance evaluation with a defined frequency
  • An internal audit programme for the environmental system, completed
  • Management review minutes containing the standard's specific inputs

How to cover performance evaluation in Kimobox

  1. 1Set up environmental indicators (water, energy, waste) to calculate themselves from consumption records.
  2. 2Schedule the compliance evaluation with alerts ahead of each review.
  3. 3Prepare management review with environmental data already aggregated.

Consumption indicators stop depending on a manual spreadsheet every month.
