UNE 73401 templates and records

Nine nuclear quality assurance records, each with the criterion that calls for it, the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council guide that expands on it, its retention period under IS-24 and a completed example.

In one sentence

UNE 73401 is the basic standard that guide GS-10.1 of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) recommends for the quality assurance programmes of Spanish nuclear facilities, and its records —the programme, safety-related items, design verification and changes, suppliers, commercial grade dedication, special processes, inspection points and nonconformities with their disposition— must be able to show, years later, that every activity was carried out as planned; Instruction IS-24 sets out which of them are kept for the whole life of the facility.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before getting started

Is UNE 73401 mandatory?

UNE standards are not binding in themselves, but CSN guide GS-10.1 recommends it as the basic standard for the quality assurance programme, and licensees carry it into their purchase orders. For a supplier of safety-related items it is, in practice, a contractual requirement.

Is an ISO 9001 system enough?

No. GS-10.1 explains that UNE 73401 contains safety requirements that ISO 9001 does not, and that a supplier certified to ISO 9001 must supplement them with those listed in the standard’s annexed tables, to the extent they apply.

How long are the records kept?

Under Instruction IS-24, lifetime records —design, construction, inspections and tests, items accepted with deviations and staff training, among others— are kept for the whole life of the facility; non-permanent records for a minimum of five years.
