Module 6 of 7 · ISO 9001 · Clause 9

Performance evaluation

A system that is not measured cannot be improved. This clause forces quality management into data: indicators, internal audits and a formal management review.

Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation

You need to decide what needs measuring —processes, customer satisfaction, product conformity—, with what method, when it is done and when results are analyzed, and act on what the data shows instead of just filing it away.

Internal audit

An audit programme planned according to the importance of the processes and the results of previous audits, with defined criteria and scope, objective and impartial auditors, and results reported to the relevant managers.

Management review

At planned intervals, management reviews the system using concrete inputs —audit results, customer satisfaction, process performance, nonconformities, changes in context— and produces outputs: improvement decisions, resource needs and necessary changes to the system.

What an auditor usually asks for

  • A process indicator dashboard kept current, not just at year-end
  • An annual internal audit programme completed, with findings closed out
  • Management review minutes containing the minimum inputs the standard requires
  • Evidence that decisions from the review are actually put into practice

How to cover performance evaluation in Kimobox

  1. 1Set up each process indicator to calculate itself from data that is already being recorded.
  2. 2Plan the internal audit programme and build the checklist directly on the platform, no more loose templates.
  3. 3Prepare management review with audit, complaint and nonconformity data already aggregated for you.

The indicator dashboard stops depending on someone updating it by hand every month.
