How the company’s processes, projects and activities affect the communities where it operates, and what it does about each effect.

In one sentence

The social impact assessment identifies the positive and negative effects of the company’s activity on the communities where it operates, sets plans and measures for each, tracks them with indicators and is reviewed every year and after significant changes, as section 6.5.1 of SGE 21 requires.

What the standard requires

What SGE 21 demands and what it leaves to your judgement

The standard asks the organisation to take into account the effects of its processes, projects and activities on communities, to develop plans and measures for each impact identified and to analyse the results with indicators. The identification is reviewed every year and whenever there are significant changes.

Community investment (6.5.2) is a separate requirement: if the company makes it, it must report the results to the committee at least once a year.

ISO 26000 treats social investment as good practice; here the starting point must be the impacts, not the donations.
