Module 2 of 7 · ISO 45001 · Clause 5

Leadership

The standard requires management to actively lead on safety, and workers to genuinely participate, not just sign off on a poster.

Content reviewed on

Demonstrated commitment and leadership

Management takes accountability for preventing work-related injury and ill health, and for providing safe and healthy workplaces.

OH&S policy

It must include a commitment to provide safe working conditions, to eliminate hazards and reduce risks, and to consult and involve workers.

Worker consultation and participation

The standard dedicates its own clause to guaranteeing real consultation and participation mechanisms, not just informational ones, in hazard identification and incident investigation.

What an auditor usually asks for

  • An OH&S policy that is signed, communicated and understood by staff
  • Management review minutes focused on health and safety
  • A record of worker consultation and participation
  • Evidence that management drives hazard elimination, not just control

How to cover leadership in Kimobox

  1. 1Publish the OH&S policy as a controlled document, with a staff read receipt.
  2. 2Log worker consultations and their responses within the OH&S workflow itself.
  3. 3Turn management review into a template with accident-rate data already pre-loaded.

Worker consultation stays on record with a date and a response, not buried in minutes nobody reopens.
