Performance evaluation

Monitoring, verification, complaints and audits tell you whether the system works; management review turns that analysis into decisions.

Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation (9.1)

The organisation decides what to measure, by which method and when to analyse it. The data to be analysed and evaluated include the results of verification of the PRPs and the control plan, and those of internal and external audits.

Internal audit (9.2)

A programme that takes into account the importance of the processes, changes in the system and the results of monitoring, verification and previous audits. Auditors do not audit their own work, and findings are reported to the food safety team and to top management.

Management review (9.3)

Its inputs include the status of previous actions, changes in context, the performance of the system — verification, audits, nonconformities, inspections by the authorities — the adequacy of resources, emergencies and incidents, and product withdrawals. Documented information on its results is retained.

What an auditor usually asks for

  • Periodic analysis of verification results, with trends
  • Internal audit programme covering PRPs and the control plan
  • Auditors independent of the area audited
  • Review minutes with the inputs required by 9.3 and decisions with an owner

How to cover evaluation in Kimobox

  1. 1Set up food safety indicators so that they are calculated from the monitoring and verification records.
  2. 2Plan internal audits with their checklist and assign findings as nonconformities.
  3. 3Prepare management review with the period's data already aggregated.

A management review that does not mention the year's withdrawals or official inspections is incomplete even if there were none: that has to be stated.
