BRCGS Food Safety templates and records

Ten records that hold up a BRCGS certification, from the food safety culture plan to metal detector verification, each with the clause that calls for it and a completed example.

In one sentence

BRCGS Food Safety is audited on records: the food safety culture plan, validation and annual review of the HACCP plan, internal audits spread across the year, raw material risk assessment, corrective actions, the four-hour traceability test, recall management and foreign body and allergen controls; several underpin fundamental requirements, where a failure prevents certification.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before getting started

What is a fundamental requirement in BRCGS?

A requirement flagged in the Standard as essential to product safety: senior management commitment, the HACCP plan, internal audits, supplier management, corrective action, traceability, site layout and segregation, housekeeping and hygiene, allergen management, control of operations and training. A major nonconformity against any of them prevents certification.

Are BRCGS records valid for IFS?

Much of the work is common to both. The nuances change: BRCGS sets traceability at four hours and spreads internal audits over at least four dates; IFS scores with KO requirements. Each sheet links to its IFS equivalent where there is one.

Do records affect the grade?

Yes. The grade, from AA to D, depends on the number and severity of nonconformities, and most of them stem from an incomplete record or from a practice that does not match what is documented.
